About Jill

Hello! My name is Jill Szoo Wilson and I am the host of Small Town Big Stories. You can find our podcast on iTunes and GooglePlay, as well as most places where you get your podcasts.

I began this podcast for one reason: I have struggled with finding my purpose for the past couple years. Having graduated with my MFA in Acting and Directing for Theatre in 2006, I quickly embarked upon a professional career on the stage, in front of the camera and in university classrooms as a Communications instructor. Then, a few new things happened: I turned 40 years old and my 12 year position at the university here in town ended as a result of statewide budget cuts. At first I felt lost and intimidated by this sudden shift in my world. Then, I refocused and began to search anew for direction and purpose. I tried being a Web Content Manager, a Marketing Director and I even enjoyed a short stint in the Police Academy. After all was said and done, and after I tried to venture onto paths that seemed foreign and new, I came back to the heart of myself: the heart of a storyteller. So, that is what I am doing now, surrounding myself with stories and sharing them with you all!

My goal for you, my listener, is simple: I want to help you find purpose, wherever you are.
